Preparing to Teach Your Child

My first question to you as the parent would be "Do You know Jesus as Your Savior?

If your answer is "Yes" great and if it is "No", well that's great too. That may sound like a strange thing to say, but it is great because it's not too late to make it right.

You see, we cannot teach something that we have no personal experience of.

Children are very quick to pick it up when we don't practice what we preach and that is when we can cause children to stumble in their own faith. Matthew 18 : 6

Let's take a look at some of the ways in which you can prepare yourself to get ready to teach your child and prepare them for eternity.

Be Sure of Your Own Salvation

This is most important. If you have never accepted Jesus as your Savior then you are lost and will be separated from God forever if you were to die right now.

It is also important to know that you are not a Christian because your parents were Christians, just that same as you are not a car if you happened to be born in a garage.

Perhaps you are just not sure if you are saved. In that case you can fix that now.

If you have a genuine desire to know Jesus as your Savior, take some time right now to talk to Him.

  • Admit that you are a sinner. Romans 3 : 23

  • Tell Him you believe that He is the Son of God who died on the cross for your sins and rose again from the dead. 1 Corinthians : 3,4

  • Choose to accept Him as your personal Savior. John 3 : 16

Make Prayer a way of life

Prayer is as important for spiritual growth and godly living as oxygen is for breathing. It is the way we connect with God on a personal level.

It is important to spend time in prayer asking God to prepare you and to show you what needs to change in your life so that you can set the right example for your children.

If you are married, pray together. For one another, for your children, and for wisdom to set the right example as you attempt to prepare your children for eternity.

Spend Time in The Word

We cannot get to know God or His will for our lives if we do not take the time to read His Word.

There are so many treasures to be discovered in the Word. Make it a priority in your personal life and also as a family to discover these treasures so that your lives can be enriched and so that you can live the life God has planned for you.

Spend Time with other Believers

Attend church, take part in outreaches, join a Bible Study group. Anything that can help you grow spiritually.

May God bless you as you embark on this journey.
